Schoolhouse Rocks is a climbing area in Oregon, about 4 miles from the town of Callahan. It sits among a cluster of other climbing spots, with Troll's Throne, the Twisted Sister Formation and Singer Slab all within about a tenth of a mile. That makes it easy to pair with other routes in the same area. The climbing here is all sport, and the routes run from about 5.8 to 5.11a. Five routes are listed, including Summer Vacation at 5.8 and Steep Learning Curve at 5.11a. The grades are typical for sport climbing in this part of the state, and the area is best suited for climbers who want to work on a range of routes in a single outing. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 84°F with only about three wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-40s and rain on most days. That station sits roughly 1,250 feet lower than the rocks, so temperatures at the climbing area run cooler. Callahans Climbing Trail is about half a mile away for a short walk before or after climbing. Paddlers can find Morgan Creek about 4 miles off and the Williams River about 6 miles away.
