Griffin's Roost

Griffin's Roost is a climbing area in Oregon, about 4 miles from the town of Callahan. It sits among a cluster of other climbing spots, with Westeros just 0.1 mile away and Land of Oz and Turtle Rock each about 0.2 mile off. The area is a compact hub for climbers, with several routes close together and the Callahans Climbing Trail about 0.3 mile away for a walk before or after a session on the rock. The climbing here is a mix of sport and trad routes, with five routes listed in total. The grades run from 5.7 to 5.10c, and the hardest is Dragon Songs at 5.10c. Griffin's Crack is the only trad route, a 5.7 first ascended by Greg Orton and Harold Hall in 2011. The sport routes include A Feast of Crows at 5.8 and A Dance of Dragons at 5.10a, both also first ascended by Orton and Hall. Summer is the driest and warmest stretch. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 84°F with only about three wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-40s and rain on 17 or more days. That station sits roughly 1,300 feet lower than the climbing area, so temperatures at the crag run cooler.
