3rd Boulder is a moderate out-and-back hike in the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District of Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The trail runs about 9 miles, with a total elevation gain of 2,142 feet, from a low point of 6,734 feet to a high of 9,031 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is natural-surfaced and open year-round. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. That makes it a good fit for riders on horseback or on foot, and the trail's length and climb mean planning for a full day. The 4th Boulder hike lies just 0.8 miles away, and the 2nd Boulder and Alles Creek hikes are both within about 3 miles. For an overnight stay, Angel Lake Campground is about 7.7 miles off.
