Smith Lake is a 1.4-mile out-and-back hike in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, on the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District. The trail rises from a low point of 8,445 feet to a high of 9,042 feet, a gain of 610 feet, and is rated easy. The Forest Service manages the land. The route is natural-surfaced and allows horses, and bikes are not allowed. It stays open year-round, so you can plan a visit any time of the year. The Smith Lake Trail starts right at the hike's name, about 0.1 mile away. Angel Lake Spring and Angel Lake Campground lie within a third of a mile, and the East Humboldt Highline is about 0.6 mile off.
