Secret-Starr is a short, easy out-and-back hike in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, within the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District. The trail is about 2.7 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 196 feet, and it starts at roughly 7,120 feet, reaching a high point of about 7,144 feet. The route is mostly gentle, but it does have a steeper stretch around 0.84 miles in, where the grade reaches about 15 percent. That makes it a good choice for a quick outing rather than a long day on foot. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 84°F with lows near 50°F, while winter highs stay in the mid-30s. That station sits about 900 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the hike run cooler. Several other hikes lie within a couple of miles, including Ackler Creek and Alles Creek, each about 1.2 miles away, and North Fork Herder at about 1.4 miles. Angel Lake Campground is about 4.5 miles off.
