North Fork Herder is a hard hike in the East Humboldts Wilderness, part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District in northeastern Nevada. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 7,338 feet to 9,297 feet, a gain of 1,960 feet over roughly 3.1 miles. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is on natural surface with no designated bike access. The trail is open from about June 15 through October 30, so plan for a late spring or early fall visit. The closest neighbor is the Secret-Starr hike, about 0.6 miles away, and the GREYS CREEK and Ackler Creek hikes are each about 2.2 miles off. For an overnight base, Angel Lake Campground sits about 3.3 miles away.
