Taiton

Taiton — also historically known as Tait or York — was an unincorporated community in the northwestern part of Wharton County, Texas. It sat roughly 5 miles north of what is now called New Taiton, along State Highway 71. The community reached its population peak around 1910 and steadily declined after that, eventually either relocating southward to become New Taiton or being supplanted by it entirely.

For anyone curious enough to seek it out, the original Taiton offers almost nothing to orient a visit. No road signs mark it, no Farm-to-Market road serves it, and it does not appear on modern maps. New Taiton, by contrast, retains at least that basic level of recognition. The old site is, in practical terms, invisible on the landscape — making this a destination only for dedicated history enthusiasts comfortable navigating without conventional markers.
