About Plainview

Plainview is a ghost town in southwestern Wharton County, Texas, situated at the crossroads of FM 441 and FM 1163, southwest of El Campo. The community once supported its own school, which operated from at least 1916 through 1948, suggesting a settled local population across several decades of the early twentieth century.

Visitors today find very little remaining. As of 2014, a town hall building was still standing, though only a handful of homes existed in the immediate area. It is a quiet, roadside remnant rather than a developed historic site.
