About Nottawa
Nottawa is a ghost town in northeastern Wharton County, Texas, located along the junction of US Route 90 Alternate and Farm to Market Road 1164, roughly midway between the communities of East Bernard and Lissie. The surrounding area was historically a rice-growing region, giving this former community its agricultural context.
By 2016, the site held a gas compressor station — the most tangible evidence of any active presence there. Visitors should expect little in the way of historic remains; this is a roadside location rather than a preserved townsite, and the experience is one of quiet rural Texas landscape rather than dramatic ruins.
