About Texana

Texana was among the earliest Anglo-American settlements established in Texas, situated in what is now Jackson County near the town of Edna. It grew into a functioning community that remained active as late as 1880, but the decision by railroad builders to route their line elsewhere proved fatal to the town's prospects, and it declined quickly in the years that followed.

The story of Texana took a final turn in the twentieth century when the site was submerged beneath the waters of the Lake Texana reservoir. There are no surface remains to explore — the original townsite now lies underwater. Visitors curious about the area will find the lake itself, not a walkable historic landscape.
