Preston

Preston is a ghost town in Wharton County, Texas, whose story stretches back to the early days of the Republic of Texas. The land it occupied was part of a grant held by John Huff, one of Stephen Austin's original Old Three Hundred settlers, and its position near a significant north–south trail gave it early promise. Lots were sold, a community took shape, and postal service ran from 1839 until 1857 — a span that roughly bookends the town's active life.

Today nothing remains of that settlement except an old cemetery situated near Farm to Market Road 1096, south of the community of Iago. Visitors should expect only that quiet, overgrown burial ground as evidence that a town ever existed here at all.
