Osage

Osage is a ghost town in northwestern Colorado County, Texas, once situated along Harvey Creek near where County Roads 205 and 208 intersect, a few miles northeast of Weimar. During the Civil War era, the community was substantial enough to contribute an entire company of soldiers to a Confederate Texas regiment — a measure of its size and civic organization at the time. A school gained notable standing in the 1870s, but when the railroad was routed through Weimar rather than Osage, the settlement's prospects faded.

Today Osage exists in name only. Visitors drawn to historic Texas settlements may pass through the area via the county roads, but no developed access, interpretive signage, or preserved structures are indicated. This is a quiet rural corner of Texas best suited to those with an interest in Civil War-era history and the patience to seek out places that exist more in the historical record than on the landscape.
