About Long Point

Long Point is a ghost town in Fort Bend County, Texas, situated roughly 24 miles southeast of Richmond at the crossroads of Farm to Market Road 1994 and FM 361. Though the surrounding roads carry the community's name, no sign marks the spot itself.

During the 1930s, petroleum and sulphur were extracted in the area, representing the industrial activity that once gave the location some regional significance. Today, electric transmission towers pass through the site, and a county landfill occupies land to the northeast — practical infrastructure that has replaced whatever community once existed here.

Visitors should arrive with modest expectations. There are no preserved structures or interpretive markers to speak of. The appeal is chiefly for those with a curiosity about Texas ghost towns and the faint traces industry and settlement leave on a landscape over time.
