Queen of the Lake is an easy out-and-back hike in southern Oregon, about 2 miles from the nearest town. It sits on land managed by the State Land Board, within the Forest Development Fund (Board of Forestry) unit, and it covers a round trip of about 3.9 miles with an elevation gain of about 180 feet. The trail starts near 4,324 feet and climbs to a high point of about 4,331 feet, so the route is short and gentle. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.8 miles, where the grade reaches 15%, but it passes quickly. The start is also close to 4,324 feet, so the climb is not steep over all. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Keno weather station run from highs around 77°F in June to about 88°F in July, with fewer wet days than in winter, when highs sit around 40°F and wet days come about 12 times a month. The South Ridge Trail and Lower Hooligan both start about 0.1 mile away, and the Spence Mountain Bouldering area is about half a mile off. A little farther out, the Winema hike is about 1.4 miles away.
