North Star is a 6.8-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon, about 6 miles from the Running Y Ranch. The route starts at roughly 4,545 feet and climbs to about 4,627 feet, with a total gain of 471 feet, before returning. The steepest stretch comes at about 1.4 miles in, where the grade reaches 6%. Late spring and early fall tend to be the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the Keno weather station, about 18 miles away, show June highs near 77°F and September highs near 79°F, while July and August average in the upper 80s. Several other trails sit close by. Speed King is less than half a mile away, and Winema is about a mile out. The Spence Peak Trail and Upper Hooligan are each roughly 1.4 miles from the start.
