Old Channel is a short, easy out-and-back hike in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, managed by the Forest Service. The route is about 1.9 miles long, with no elevation gain, and it starts and ends at nearly the same level, around 21 feet. The high point on the trail reaches about 30 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.55 miles in, with a grade of about 5 percent. Summer is the warmest time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Troutdale run to highs around 81°F in July and August, with lows near 56°F. Winter is much cooler, with January highs around 44°F and lows near 35°F. Meadow Trail is about 0.4 miles away, and Meadow Road and Meadow are each about 0.6 miles off. Climbers can find (1) North Face about 1.1 miles away.
