The North Face is a climbing area in Oregon's Lewis and Clark State Recreation Site, within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The land is city-managed, and the area sits among a cluster of climbing spots and trails that sit just a few steps apart. The climbing here is a mix of traditional and sport routes, with grades ranging from 5.6 to 5.13b. About 11 routes are listed, including Reckless Driver at 5.6, Traffic Court at 5.9, and Dark Tower at 5.13b. Cindyrella is a mixed route at 5.12a, and Risky Business at 5.10a is a traditional climb with a first ascent in 1987 by Wayne Wallace and Bob McGown. Summer is the warmest time to climb. Typical averages from the nearby Troutdale weather station run to highs around 81°F in July and August, while winter highs there stay in the mid-40s. Hanging Gardens and Red Wall are both about 0.1 mile away, and the Lewis & Clark Trail 400 and Spring Rock are in the same neighborhood. Beaver Creek, a paddling spot, is about 1.7 miles off.
