Olallie is a hard out-and-back hike of about 16.4 miles on natural-surface trail in the McKenzie River Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest, in Oregon. The route climbs from a start near 2,650 feet to a high point of 5,268 feet, and the total gain is about 5,473 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch around mile 0.93, where the grade reaches 38 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Santiam Junction weather station, which sits about 1,500 feet lower, show July and August highs around 76°F with lows near 42°F. Winter there is cold, with January highs near 38°F and lows around 24°F. The trip is rated hard and takes about 8 hours. Horse Creek Group Campground is less than a mile away, and McKenzie Bridge campground is about 2 miles off. Castle Rock and Frissel are both within 3 miles, and paddlers can reach the East Fork South Fork McKenzie River about 3.4 miles away.
