O Leary Mountain is a hard hike in the McKenzie River Ranger District of Oregon's Willamette National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back of about 18 miles, with a total elevation gain of 5,390 feet and a high point of 5,110 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 0.7 miles in, where the grade reaches 39 percent. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows bikes. The trip is estimated to take about 8.5 hours, and the route is open year-round. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Santiam Junction, which sits about 1,360 feet lower than the high point, show July and August highs around 76°F with lows near 42°F. Winter is cold, with January highs around 38°F and lows near 24°F. The Echo hike starts just 0.2 miles away, and East Fork and Castle Rock are both within about 2 miles. For camping, Delta campground is about 3.5 miles off.
