The Playground: Area 1 is a bouldering area within the Mohonk Preserve in New York, managed by a non-governmental organization. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with Suzie A Boulders, Uberfall problems and Near Trapps Bouldering all about 0.1 mile away. The area is best suited to boulderers, with six bouldering problems ranging from V0 to V8-. The most comfortable months for a visit are late spring through early fall. Typical averages from the nearby Mohonk Lake weather station show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 73°F, with July the warmest at about 83°F. That station sits roughly 500 feet lower than the preserve, so temperatures on the boulders run a little cooler. The Millbrook Ridge Trail is about 0.4 mile away, and the Old Minnewaska Trail is about 0.8 mile away. For a longer outing, the Trapps Trail lies about 1.6 miles off.
