Noonmark Mountain

Noonmark Mountain is a climbing area in the High Peaks Wilderness of New York, managed by the State Department of Conservation. It sits within the High Peaks Wilderness, and the surrounding land is part of the state's protected wilderness system. The climbing here is alpine in style, with five routes spread across the mountain. The grades run from 5.3 to 5.8 on the YDS scale, with the Wiessner Route at 5.8 being the hardest. The Kerr Route and the Old Route, both around 5.4 to 5.6, are among the more moderate options. Fritz Wiessner is the namesake of several of these routes, including the Old Route and the Wiessner Route, which he climbed with Garfield Jones. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Lake Placid show July highs around 74°F with lows near 54°F, while winter highs stay in the 20s. That station sits about 1,200 feet below the mountain, so temperatures on the summit run cooler. The Felix Adler Trail is less than a mile away, and the H.G. Leach Trail and the Gill Brook Cutoff Trail are both within about a mile and a half. For more climbing, the Beer Walls are about 2 miles off.
