Tanager Face is a climbing area in the High Peaks Wilderness of New York, managed by the State Department of Conservation. It sits among a cluster of other climbing spots, with Chapel Pond Slab and B: Chapel Pond Pass each about 0.2 miles away and The Creature Wall about 0.3 miles off. The area has seven routes, with grades ranging from 5.6 to 5.12a. Most are mixed, and two are trad. The hardest is A Touch of Gray, a sport route at 5.12a. Beam Me Up is a trad 5.6, and Veracity is a mixed 5.10a. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Lake Placid show July highs around 74°F with lows near 54°F, while winter highs stay in the 20s. Hikers can pair a day on the rock with the S. Burns Weston Trail, about half a mile away, or the Nubble Trail, under a mile off.
