Chalked Hold Boulder is a bouldering area in the Shawangunk Multiple Use Area of New York, managed by the State Department of Conservation. It sits among a cluster of other bouldering spots, with Warwarsing Boulder, Sunkist Boulder and Lower Wawarsing Boulder all about 0.1 mile away. The area has 10 boulder problems, ranging from V3 to V9. The easiest are Out of the Ashes (Stand) and Wet Ones at V3, and the hardest is The Thickening at V9. Leading the March is a V6 problem with a first ascent by Christian Gonzalez. For comfortable weather, late spring and early fall are the best bets. Typical averages from the Mohonk Lake weather station, about 2.6 miles away, show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 73°F, with July the warmest month at about 83°F. That station sits roughly 620 feet lower than the boulders, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. Hikers can pair a session with the Millbrook Ridge Trail, about 0.6 mile away, or the Old Minnewaska Trail at about 0.9 mile.
