The route rises from a low point of 323 feet to a high of 1,945 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,997 feet over the course of the trip. That makes it a moderate climb, and the steepest stretch comes early, around the 1-mile mark, where the grade reaches about 30 percent. The trail is a front-loaded climb, so the most significant ascent happens in the first part of the route. The round trip is about 5 miles, and the estimated time is roughly 2.5 hours. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Glens Falls show July highs around 82°F with lows near 58°F, while temperatures at the high point run cooler than those figures. Winters are cold, with January highs around 30°F. Several other trails sit close by. Lakeside Trail and Black Mountain Point Trail are each about 0.4 miles away, Erebus Mountain Trail is about 1.2 miles off, and Black Mountain Ponds Trail is about 1.5 miles away.
