Winchell Lake is a hard hike of about 3.7 miles in the East Humboldts Wilderness, part of the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in northeastern Nevada. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a natural-surface out-and-back that climbs from about 7,589 feet to about 8,312 feet. The route is rated hard, and the climb is one way. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. Angel Lake Campground and Angel Lake, a fishing spot, both sit about 1.8 miles away. Angel Lake Spring is about 1.9 miles off, and Smith Lake is about 2 miles away.
