Trout Creek is a 2.7-mile out-and-back hike in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District in northeastern Nevada. It rises from about 6,635 feet to about 7,995 feet, a climb of 1,182 feet, and is rated moderate. The trail is natural-surfaced and open year round, with horses allowed and bikes not. The route makes for a straightforward outing on a single day. Its natural surface and moderate grade suit a steady walk, and the trail's shape as an out-and-back keeps the return straightforward. The climb is the main factor, and the high point at about 8,000 feet gives a good reason to pack a light lunch or make the trip an all-day effort. Nearby, the Secret-Starr and East Humboldt Highline hikes lie within about 2 miles, and GREYS CREEK is about 2.1 miles away. For an overnight base, Angel Lake Campground is roughly 2.6 miles off.
