Long Canyon is a hard hike in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, within the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District. The route is an out-and-back that climbs from about 6,250 feet to nearly 9,800 feet, with a total elevation gain of about 4,570 feet over a distance of roughly 17 miles. The trail is on natural surface, and horses are allowed. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. The nearest town is Jarbidge, and the surrounding area offers several other hikes within a mile or so, including Segunda Creek, Lower Segunda Mine and North Furlong. Thomas Canyon Campground sits about 8 miles away for anyone planning an overnight stay.
