Echo Canyon is a moderate out-and-back hike in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, within the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District. The trail is about 3.4 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 1,346 feet, and it starts at roughly 7,020 feet, rising to a high point of about 7,542 feet. The route is natural-surface and allows horses, and bikes are not permitted. The climb is steepest at the start, with a grade of about 26 percent at the first 0.1 mile. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 84°F with lows near 50°F, while winter highs stay in the mid-30s. That station sits about 1,300 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the canyon run cooler. The hike takes about two hours. It is open year-round, and the closest neighbors are North Furlong, about 2.7 miles away, and Long Canyon, about 3.4 miles away.
