Thomas Canyon Campground is a Forest Service campground in the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District of Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. It sits about 15 miles from the town of Mountain City. The camp typically stays open from May to November, as weather and conditions allow. Vault toilets are the only facility on site, and a fee is charged for stays. The Thomas Canyon Trail starts right at the campground, heading past several waterfalls, through an alpine meadow and into a glacial cirque. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 84°F with lows near 50°F, and July and August see the fewest wet days of the year. That station sits well below the campground, so temperatures here run cooler. The Thomas Canyon and New Thomas Canyon hikes both begin about 0.2 miles away, and the Lamoille Canyon Nature Trail is roughly 1.5 miles off.
