Mescal #174C is an easy out-and-back hike in the Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. The route is about 5 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 282 feet, and it starts and ends at roughly 4,460 feet, rising to about 4,707 feet at the high point. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Sedona show April highs around 75°F and October highs around 79°F, while July averages climb to about 97°F. The trail is open to both horses and bikes. Climbers will find Secret Canyon and the Dry Creek Road Area about 0.1 mile away, and the Boynton Canyon #47 hike is about 0.3 mile off. For an overnight stay, Chavez Crossing campground is about 6 miles away.
