Girdner #162 is a moderate out-and-back hike in Arizona's Coconino National Forest, within the Red Rock Ranger District. The trail is about 10 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 137 feet, and it starts at the Herkenham/Schuerman Mt parking area. The trail is suited to a range of outings. Bikes and horses are both allowed, so riders and pack animals can join the walk. The route rises from about 4,221 feet to roughly 4,601 feet, a low-to-moderate climb that makes it a natural fit for a longer day in the area. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the nearby Sedona weather station run from highs around 75°F in April to about 79°F in October. Summer highs there typically reach the mid-90s, and winter lows sit in the mid-30s. Chuckwagon #196 and the Snake mountain biking route both lie about 0.2 miles away.
