About Uinta National Forest

Uinta National Forest spans nearly 278,000 acres across Utah and offers a broad range of outdoor recreation on public land managed by the Forest Service. The forest supports hiking, backpacking, and camping across dispersed sites and developed areas, along with fishing in streams and lakes, scenic driving routes, and hunting during designated seasons. Mountain biking and horseback riding are available on many trails, while winter brings opportunities for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in higher elevation areas.

Visitors should plan around Utah's elevation and seasonal patterns. Lower elevations are accessible spring through fall, typically May through October, with July and August offering the most stable weather. Higher terrain can be snow-covered from November through April, making winter travel difficult except for prepared backcountry users. The forest is busiest in summer months when trails and camping areas see peak use. Access is year-round from nearby highways, but specific trail and forest road conditions vary with snowfall and maintenance schedules—check current conditions with the Forest Service before heading out.
