Mount Nebo Wilderness

Mount Nebo Wilderness spans 27,085 acres of federally protected backcountry in Utah, managed by the Forest Service as a primitive non-motorized zone. The landscape offers rugged alpine terrain and forested slopes suited to hikers and backpackers seeking genuine solitude away from roads and mechanical access.

Recreation here centers on foot travel — day hikes and multi-day backpacking trips through undeveloped country. There are no roads, motors, or mountain bikes permitted; the wilderness rules are absolute. Visitors must practice Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, camp away from water sources, and respect the land as wild.

Access is by trailhead from surrounding national forest land; check with the Forest Service for current conditions and entry points. Spring snowmelt and winter weather close or complicate travel in the coldest months. Late spring through early fall is the practical window, with summer offering the most reliable conditions for backcountry trips.
