Murky Marsh is a 3.5-mile loop hike in Tennessee, about a mile from the town of Apison. The trail is rated easy, with a total elevation gain of 182 feet. It starts and ends at roughly 840 feet and peaks at about 1,030 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 1.6 miles in, with a grade of around 10 percent. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Chattanooga run to highs of about 74°F in April and October, with fewer wet days in fall than in spring. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground may run a little cooler. Lookout Hill lies just 0.1 mile away, and Pogo's Place and Rolling Ridge are both within a mile. Climbers can head to Goliath wall, about 1.5 miles off.
