Salmon River Slab is a climbing area in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest, within the Zigzag Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the surrounding land, and the slab itself offers sport climbing on seven routes, all rated between 5.3 and 5.9 on the YDS scale. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 78 to 79°F with only four or five wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the low 40s and rain on about 20 days a month. That station sits roughly 400 feet below the slab, so temperatures on the slab run slightly cooler. The closest neighbors include the Old Salmon River hike, about 0.4 miles away, and Green Canyon Campground at 0.6 miles. Paddlers can find Cheeney Creek about 1.9 miles off, and Hunchback Wall, another climbing area, is about 2.9 miles away.
