Hanging Gardens is a climbing area in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, within the Lewis and Clark State Recreation Site. It sits on city land, and the surrounding area is a cluster of climbing spots and trails, with several other climbing areas and the Lewis & Clark Trail 400 all within about a tenth of a mile. The climbing here is a mix of trad and sport routes, with 27 routes in total. The grades run from 5.6 up to 5.12c/d, and the median is around 5.10a. Among the named routes are Giant's Staircase at 5.6, Edges and Ledges at 5.8, and Scorpion Seam, a sport route at 5.12c/d. Summer is the warmest stretch. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Troutdale put July and August highs around 81°F with lows near 56°F, while winter highs sit in the mid-40s. Nearby, (1) North Face and (3) Red Wall are both about 0.1 mile away, and the Lewis & Clark Trail 400 is just as close. Beaver Creek, a paddling spot, is about 1.7 miles off.
