The Trillium Lake Winter Loop is a 2.85-mile moderate hike in the Zigzag Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back that starts at about 3,640 feet and climbs steadily to a high point of 3,790 feet, with a total gain of 1,165 feet over the round trip. The steepest stretch comes at about 2.1 miles in, where the grade reaches 9%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Government Camp weather station show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on most days. Climbers will find Section 3 and Trillium Lake Crag (Mosquito Butte) about 0.3 miles away, and the Trillium Lake Loop hike is 0.4 miles off. Trillium Lake Campground sits about 0.7 miles from the trail.
