Mud Creek Loop Nordic is a 14-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest, within the Zigzag Ranger District. The trail is managed by the Forest Service and rated hard, with a total elevation gain of 1,785 feet over the round trip. The route starts at about 3,663 feet and climbs steadily to a high point of 4,009 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 0.27 miles in, where the grade reaches 12 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Government Camp weather station show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on 20 or more days. The trip takes about 5.5 hours. The trailhead sits right next to Trillium Campground and Trillium Lake Campground, both about 0.1 mile away. The Trillium Lake Loop and the Trillium Lake Crag (Mosquito Butte) climbing area are each about 0.4 mile off.
