Eureka Peak is a 2.4-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest, within the Zigzag Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a natural-surface route that climbs from about 3,250 feet to the summit at 4,165 feet, with a total gain of 975 feet. The climb is front-loaded, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.4 miles, where the grade reaches 25%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Government Camp show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on 20 or more days. The hike takes about 1.5 hours. Sunrise Trail and Pro Line Trail both lie within about a mile, and Trillium Lake Campground is about 2 miles away. Climbers can find Trillium Lake Crag (Mosquito Butte) at a similar distance.
