Riverside is a hard hike in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest, within the Clackamas River Ranger District. The route is about 7 miles long, and the trail's natural surface leads from a low point of 1,358 feet to a high of 1,496 feet, making it a short climb for an out-and-back. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. At the Three Lynx weather station, about 3 miles away, typical July and August highs average around 78 to 79°F with only four or five wet days a month. The station sits several hundred feet below the trail, so temperatures on the ridge run cooler. The Rainbow campground lies just 0.3 miles away, and the Alder Flat hike is about half a mile off. Climbers can head to Coethedral Main, about 2.5 miles away, and paddlers will find Shellrock Creek roughly 6 miles out.
