Alder Flat is an easy out-and-back hike of about 1.6 miles in the Clackamas River Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The trail rises about 200 feet from a low point of roughly 1,280 feet to a high of about 1,490 feet, and its natural surface makes it a straightforward walk for anyone looking to spend a short time on foot in the forest. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Three Lynx show July and August highs in the upper 70s with only four or five wet days a month, while winter months bring highs around 40°F and rain on most days. The Riverside hike lies about half a mile away, and the Rainbow campground is about 0.7 miles off. Climbers can head to Coethedral Main, about 2.2 miles away, and paddlers will find Fish Creek roughly 6 miles from the trail.
