Devils Rest is a moderate out-and-back hike in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 3.2 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 1,264 feet, and it reaches a high point of 2,433 feet. The climb starts at about 1,559 feet and the steepest stretch comes within the first tenth of a mile, with a grade of 38 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 81 to 82°F with only about three wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the upper 30s and rain on most days. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the ridge run cooler. The hike takes about 1.5 hours. Vista Point is just 0.3 miles away, and the Larch Mountain Trail and Gorge Trail are each about half a mile off. Rat Cave, a climbing area, is about a mile away.
