Angels Rest is a hard out-and-back hike in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, managed by the Forest Service. The trail starts at Angel's Rest Trailhead and climbs to a high point of 1,857 feet, with a total elevation gain of 3,349 feet over the course of the 8-mile round trip. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.8 miles in, where the grade reaches 35 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Skamania Fish Hatchery, Washington, show July and August highs around 79 to 80°F with only five or six wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-40s and rain on 20 or more days. The Gorge hike lies just 0.1 mile away, and the Angel's Rest Trail and Red Shorts Cut Route are each about 1.1 miles off. Climbers can find the (9) East End Formation area across the river in Washington, about 1.7 miles away.
