Wallface

Wallface is a rock climbing area in the High Peaks Wilderness of New York, managed by the State Department of Conservation. It sits in the heart of the state's backcountry, surrounded by wilderness and a cluster of trails. The climbing here is traditional, with most routes rated 5.5 to 5.12a, and the area holds a mix of older and more modern routes. Case Route is the oldest, a 5.5 first climbed in 1933 by Mr Case and friends. Mental Blocks, at 5.12a, is the hardest of the named routes. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Lake Placid show July highs around 74°F and lows near 54°F, though that station sits roughly 1,100 feet below Wallface, so temperatures at the wall run cooler. Winter is cold, with January highs in the low 20s. Several trails start close by. The Indian Pass Trail is just 0.2 miles away, and the Diagonal Approach and Cold Brook Pass Trail are within a mile. Wright Peak, another climbing area, is about 3 miles off.
