Spanky's Area is a climbing area in the Giant Mountain Wilderness of New York, managed by the State Department of Conservation. It sits within the wilderness, and the closest neighbor is the Sunshine City climbing area, just 0.1 mile away. The area has nine trad routes, with grades ranging from 5.5 to 5.12b. Among them are Chili Pepper Arete at 5.5, Sirloin Tips at 5.12b, and Chocoholic at 5.11b. The climbing is all trad, and the hardest route is Sirloin Tips. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Lake Placid show July highs around 74°F with lows near 54°F, while winter highs stay in the 20s.
