n. Perched Ramparts

n. Perched Ramparts is a climbing area in Harriman State Park in New York, managed by State Park and Recreation. It sits among a cluster of other climbing areas, including Baldy, Albion and Sunny Picnics, all about 0.1 mile away, and the White Diamond Trail, also about 0.1 mile away. The climbing here is sport and mixed, with grades ranging from 5.5 to 5.11. Three routes are listed: Feels Like Climbing to Me (mixed, 5.5), Sigrun's Choice (sport, 5.8) and Valhalla (sport, 5.11). The hardest is Valhalla, a sport route at 5.11, and the easiest is Feels Like Climbing to Me, a mixed route at 5.5. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 71°F in May and 76°F in September, with July the warmest at about 84°F. The station sits a few hundred feet lower than the ramparts, so temperatures up high run a little cooler. For more time on foot, the 7 Hills Trail and Seven Hills are within a mile. Across the state line in New Jersey, the Ramapo River offers fishing about 4 miles away, and Monksville Reservoir is about 8 miles away.
