Baldy is a climbing area in Harriman State Park in New York, managed by State Park and Recreation. It sits among several other climbing spots, with Albion, n. Perched Ramparts and Shadow Castle all about 0.1 mile away, and the White Diamond Trail also within a tenth of a mile. The climbing here is sport and mixed, with eight routes in total. The grades run from 5.3 to 5.10c, and the hardest is High Nowhere at 5.10c. Gunsight and Chute are both 5.8, and High Rustler is 5.9+. The first ascents of several of these routes were done by TR Ken Roberts in 2015. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 71°F and September highs around 76°F, with July the warmest month at about 84°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the park, so temperatures on the rock run a little cooler. Hikers can also reach the 7 Hills Trail and the Seven Hills hike within a mile. Across the state line in New Jersey, the Ramapo River offers fishing about 4 miles away.
