The Boxcar Area is a bouldering area within Mohonk Preserve in New York, a non-governmental organization-managed preserve. The name "Boxcar" points to its cluster of bouldering problems, which sit among several other climbing areas in the preserve, including j. The Yellow Wall and The Seasons, Nameless Area and k. The Slime Wall, all within about a tenth of a mile. The climbing here is all bouldering. OpenBeta lists 17 routes, ranging from V0 to V10, with the median grade V2. The Boxcar Boulder Problem, also known as the Boxcar Traverse, is rated V4+, and Little Death is the hardest at V10. Summer and early fall are the warmest times to visit. At the nearby Mohonk Lake weather station, typical July highs reach about 83°F with lows around 64°F, and September averages a milder 73°F. Winter brings typical January highs near 34°F and about seven snowy days. The Old Minnewaska Trail lies about a mile away, and the Millbrook Ridge Trail and Lake Shore Road are each roughly 1.4 miles off.
