South Baldy is a moderate out-and-back hike in the Magdalena Ranger District of Cibola National Forest in New Mexico, about 5.8 miles long with a one-way climb of 2,436 feet. The trail starts at a low point of about 7,552 feet and reaches a high of about 9,940 feet. The route is on natural surface, and the Forest Service allows both horses and bikes. That makes it a flexible option for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. Several other trails sit close by. North Baldy and Timber Peak are each about 0.3 miles away, and the South Baldy Summit Trail is about 0.7 miles off. For an overnight base, Water Canyon Campground is about 3.5 miles away.
