Stone Cabin is a short, easy hike in Nevada's Arc Dome Wilderness, part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's Austin-Tonopah Ranger District. The trail is about a mile long and rises roughly 36 feet from a low point of 7,781 feet to a high of 8,027 feet, making it a gentle out-and-back. The route is on natural surface and is open to horses, so riders can take it as well as hikers. Bikes are not allowed. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail falls within designated wilderness. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 85°F with lows near 41°F, while winter highs sit in the low 40s. That station sits about 1,600 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the hike run cooler. The trail is open from June 15 through October 30. The Toiyabe Crest Trail lies about 1.6 miles away, and the Reese River Trail is about 2.2 miles off. Columbine Campground, about 7.7 miles away, offers a place to stay.
